What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are tiny, thin veins that can be seen very close to the skin surface. They look like red, blue or green spider web just beneath the skin. Spider veins are most common on the legs but can also occur else where on the boby such as the face. They are usually painless,and cannot be felt by touch.

There can be few reason for having spider veins

  • Lack of movement sitting or standing for many hours in a fixed position adds additional stress to the veins pumping blood, increasing the risk of spider veins.
  • Sun exposure is the major factor for spider veins.
  • Harmones, pregnancy and menopause can cause veins.
  • Hereditary- some people have a natural tendency for veins.

Pretreatment Procedure

For better results and to reduce the risk pt epidermal injury, patients are to avoid sun exposure,tanning beds, tanning creams and sunless tanning lotions for 3 to 7 days prior to treatment and throughout the course of their laser treatment. Apply a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen SPF 30 or greater to the area(s) to be treated whenever sun exposure is possible.
